Learning Opportunities - Domestic Abuse & Multiple Disadvantage

The Women experiencing Multiple Disadvantage Network is pleased to offer two training opportunities for professionals working alongside women experiencing Multiple Disadvantage.

We recommend participants attend both topics to benefit from a greater understanding of abuse and trauma.

Multiple Disadvantage refers to people with two or more of the following issues: mental health issues, homelessness, offending and substance misuse. This affects mental health which can lead to issues such as homelessness, substance misuse and offending.


Topic one: Domestic Abuse Awareness


This training is designed to help improve your understanding of how abuse and violence impacts women experiencing Multiple Disadvantage and will help you feel more confident when responding to disclosures of abuse.


This session will:

  • Identify the dynamics of Domestic Abuse including power and control - what these may look and sound like, and what to look out for when supporting women experiencing Multiple Disadvantage.

  • Discuss best practice in response to disclosures about abuse and violence, good safeguarding practice and how to signpost to specialist agencies.

Tuesday 14th September 2021 - 1pm - 2.30pm (Please note, this session will be delivered online)


Topic two: Trauma Informed Working


This training is designed to help you understand how trauma can affect women experiencing Multiple Disadvantage and how a trauma-informed work practice can create better outcomes for all.


This session will:

  • Identify the basics of trauma, the 'window of tolerance' and grounding techniques helpful for women experiencing Multiple Disadvantage.

  • Discuss how our brains respond to threat and harm and how that relates to the lived experience of women.
