walk for Rita

Walking a marathon for all women affected by harassment, abuse and violence.

A group of local women have come together to raise awareness about women's safety and demand better for women. Walking 26.2 miles across the South Downs in early July, they want to call for everyone in society to challenge violence and abuse against women. The recent high profile story about Sarah Everard has brought the spotlight back to the realities of safety on the streets and the challenges women face. Since the start of 2021, at least 47 UK women have been killed by men (or where a man is the principal suspect) including Sarah.

This is unacceptable and every case is a tragic loss of a woman, a daughter, a sister, a friend.

We have had enough. We want better support for women and their safety.

This walk is dedicated to them.
