walk for Rita

Walking a marathon for all women affected by harassment, abuse and violence and

raising funds to deliver healthy relationship sessions to local young people.

A group of local women have come together to raise awareness about women's safety and demand better for women. Walking 26.2 miles across the South Downs in early July, they want to call for everyone in society to challenge violence and abuse against women. The recent high profile story about Sarah Everard has brought the spotlight back to the realities of safety on the streets and the challenges women face. Since the start of 2021, at least 72 UK women have been killed by men (or where a man is the principal suspect) including Sarah.

This is unacceptable and every case is a tragic loss of a woman, a daughter, a sister, a friend.

We have had enough. We want better support for women and their safety.

This walk is dedicated to them.

All funds raised from this event will enable The Rita Project to offer ten free Just Like Us sessions to young people across Sussex.
Just Like Us aims to:
  • Demystify all forms of abuse
  • Share our lived experience
  • Identify healthy behaviours
  • Discuss issues affecting young people
  • Build confidence
  • Share support information
